Budapest Travel Information / Budapest Reiseinformationen / Budapest Información de Viaje / Будапешт Полезная информация

Budapest is the capital of Hungary and is situated on the Danube river. It is one of the most interesting, beautiful and vital cities of Central Europe.

Budapest is the political and cultural center of Hungary and it hosts many national and international musical and theatrical festivals. The city is mainly divided into two parts - Buda and Pesta, which have been separate cities by the 1873 AD, when the former cities of Buda, Obuda ( Ancient Buda ) and Pest were united in one city - Budapest.

The Hungarian capital is currently divided in 23 districts. When you are booking a hotel in Budapest, be sure to have located it on the Budapest and to know the nearest transport options, as well as the route to reach your hotel from the airport.

The national currency of Hungary is the Hungarian Forint ( HUF ). It does not have a fixed exchange rate to the EURO and in order to have an up-do-date information on the exact prices, you should check the exchange rate at the time of your travel. An advise we can make to all travelers is to pay in shops and restaurants in HUF and not in EUR), although payments in EURO are accepted. It is also highly recommended to have exchanged EUROs or dollars to forints in any national bank before your departure and to exchange currency only in banks in Hungary.

Budapest has an excellent public transport system, as the metro is one of the historical achievements of Budapest - it is the second oldest in Europe, after the London metro line. All public transport means are frequent and clean and the orientation for changing one with another is rather simple. If you have any doubts about the stops you need to get in or off, or you have any other questions related to the public transport in the city, you can speak with the metro staff, which is located at the entrances to the metro lines.

Budapest is a wonderful location to reach other major Central European through train, bus and river boats.
